Search by Title

Example: search key return apes or apes return will find "Return to the planet of the apes".

Example: search key paddington will find "4.50 from Paddington" and "Paddington Bear".

Search by author

Example: search key garfield will bring up books by Leon Garfield and Brian Garfield. A search for Christ will also find authors such as Christian and Christie

Search by subject category

Example: detective will bring up all books in the Detective and Mystery fiction categories. biography will bring up all biographies, for instance "Biography-Stage and Screen" and "Biography-Politicians" etc.

Search by Keyword

Example: search key Christie Fontana 1971 locates all books by Agatha Christie published by Fontana in 1971.

Example: search key Detective Gollancz locates all books published by Gollancz with the subject heading "Detective and Mystery Fiction"

ISBN searching

General rules of searching

• The search is not case sensitive. A search key of smith would find 'SMITH', 'Smith' or even 'sMITh.'
• When searching on more than one key do not put commas between search terms.
• Parts of words can be used as search keys except for Keyword searching. For example a title search using environ will find book titles containing the words 'environment', 'environs' and 'environmental'.
• The search engine works on exact matches of words or parts of words. For example the subject category search dogs will not find titles with 'dog' in them. A keyword search on smith 1951 will find only books where both 'Smith' AND '1951' appear in the field range.
